John Legend Says He “Never Believed” He Won EGOT

As American Singer John Roger Stephens is officially a winner of EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). After he won, he said he “never believed” it.

After he won the Emmy Award, he told E!, “This is crazy. I truly never believed that I would be getting an EGOT when I started my career. I just wanted to sing songs that people loved and maybe win some Grammys. But the Oscars, the Tonys, the Emmys—this is pretty amazing.”

The Creative Arts Emmy Award was held for 2 days in September 8 and September 9. In the Award Program, All of Me‘s singer achieved victory on Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special. He won as a producer of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. He has already won Grammy, Oscar and Tony award previously. In the Emmy Award, he was also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor.

The 39 year old singer had already won 10 Grammy Awards since 2006. The Grammy Awards includes the award for Best New Artist and Best R&B Album too. Similarly, he won Oscar award for Selma’s “Glory,” in the category of Best Original Song. He had also recently won Tony Award in 2017 for the category, Best Revival of the play.

He wasn’t only one to win the EGOT winner. The American Composer and Producer, Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist and producer Tim Rice also were there to win it.

After his nomination on Emmy Awards, he said, “Being a part of Jesus Christ Superstar was one of my favorite experiences in my career. Such a wonderful show, such a wonderful team.”

He explained, “I couldn’t be more proud of what we all did together and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to do this.” He also once showed his interest to become an EGOT winner as he said, “it would be pretty incredible” if he would become an EGOT winner. But it’s no more a interest but a reality.

Till now, fifteen people have been successful to be victorious of all four major annual American entertainment awards in a competitive, individual (non-group) category of the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards.

The 70th edition of Emmy Awards will air on Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FXX.
