After John Legend got a Creative Emmy Award last weekend, his name has been listed at the name list of people who have won an EGOT.
He exclusively told that he couldn’t have won it without Common. He also expressed the credit to his close friends and his collaborators, mainly Common.
ET caught the singer at Good+ Foundation’s Evening Of Comedy & Music Benefit in New York. He was celebrating the achievement of EGOT that he was taking all Emmy, a GRAMMY, and Oscar and a Tony to his home. Legend admitted the reason of his win was the collaboration of them on the song “Glory,” for the 2014 drama Selma.
He said reasoning how he got the award, “I wouldn’t have an EGOT without Common.”
Legend also further added his EGOT also wouldn’t have been possible “without Selma and that song.”
At the time he won, he also said he “never believed” it.
After he won the Emmy Award, he told E!, “This is crazy. I truly never believed that I would be getting an EGOT when I started my career. I just wanted to sing songs that people loved and maybe win some Grammys. But the Oscars, the Tonys, the Emmys—this is pretty amazing.”
The Creative Arts Emmy Award held for 2 days in September 8 and September 9. In the Award Program, All of Me‘s singer achieved victory on Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special. He won as a producer of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. He has already won Grammy, Oscar and Tony award previously. In the Emmy Award, he was also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor.
The American Composer and Producer, Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist and producer Tim Rice also were there to win the EGOT.
Till now, fifteen people have been successful to be victorious of all four major annual American entertainment awards.
The 70th edition of Emmy Awards will air on Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FXX.
